Project Outline
Warm Wales in partnership with npower and Denbighshire County Council (DCC) and Welsh Assembly Government (WAG) propose to undertake an Affordable Warmth project within the county.
The targeted properties are private sector owned and rented properties, generally contained within the top quintile of ‘lower-super-output-areas’ (LSOA’s) in Wales Index of Multiple Deprivation (WIMD 2008).
The project will complement the work done to date with the social housing sector by installing measures to assist in the reduction of fuel poverty within the most deprived and vulnerable private sector housing.
The project will also provide a range of ‘soft measures’ that aim to maximise householder income and/or reduce the cost of energy, and provide for Homes Fire Safety Checks (HFSC’s) and the limited provision of Carbon Monoxide (CO) detectors to householders in the Renewal Areas.
To encourage householders to complete an assessment they will be offered four free Energy Saving Light Bulbs
Project Benefits
The project will:
- Reduce fuel costs for householders by providing, where appropriate, improved home insulation, access to cheaper fuel and new heating systems;
- Reduce atmospheric emissions including carbon dioxide, acidic gases and particulates;
- Boost household income to needy households by identifying opportunities to reduce the burden of energy debt, secure lower social energy tariffs for qualifying households and to provide advice and ‘hand-holding’ support for benefit claims.
- Establish employment opportunities
- Deliver comprehensive SAP and statistical data for ALL homes assessed, to the authority, via. The Warm Wales database
- Increase householders’ awareness of fire risks in their homes by the provision of Home Fire Safety Checks
- Attempt to safeguard against the risk of unsafe Carbon Monoxide levels in their homes, by the provision of detectors.
