Project Overview
Warm Wales in partnership with npower and Flintshire County Council (FCC) propose to undertake an affordable warmth project within the county of Flintshire.. All of the properties are within “Lower Super Output Areas” (LSOAs) in the higher ranked communities on the Wales Index of Multiple Deprivation (WIMD 2008). The programme will visit ALL private sector properties within the top quintile of deprivation from this index, and the remaining homes will be selected from the highest ranking communities on the index. The project will complement the work done to date with the social housing sector by installing measures to assist in the reduction of fuel poverty within the most deprived and vulnerable private sector housing. The project will also provide a range of ‘soft measures’ that aim to maximise householder income and/or reduce the cost of energy. To encourage householders to complete an assessment they will be offered free Energy Saving Light Bulbs.
Project Benefits
The project will:
- Reduce fuel costs for householders by providing, where appropriate, improved home insulation, access to cheaper fuel and new heating systems;
- Reduce atmospheric emissions including carbon dioxide, acidic gases and particulates;
- Boost household income to needy households by identifying opportunities to reduce the burden of energy debt, secure lower social energy tariffs for qualifying households and to provide advice and hand-holding support for benefit claims.
- Establish employment opportunities.
