Fuel poverty has long been concentrated in the Social Housing sector with typically 70% of households qualifying as priority for grant support under the Carbon Emissions Reduction Target (CERT) scheme. Of those qualifying, some 40% have been assessed as being fuel poor.
RSL’s have a number of obligations to fulfil, including meeting The Welsh Housing Quality Standard. These include ambitious targets for energy efficiency. RSLs also need to address targets to remove fuel poverty, meet new Planning, Building and HMO Regulations, as well as building to the Code for Sustainable Homes.
At this time of rapid change, we believe that there is a need for specialist support and practical advice. We also believe that we can assist in delivering affordable solutions for both new and established RSLs, to achieve and exceed the Welsh Housing Quality Standard.
We offer a new, innovative solution to help RSLs meet all of these obligations in one partnership. Through our subsidiary company, Sustainable Housing Solutions-Tai-Cynaliadwy Cymru, we can provide the necessary technical advice and financial support to RSLs. We can also offer to develop and build exemplars homes, meeting the very highest standards of environmental sustainability. This will help to avoid the many errors that will be made by developers working in new and unfamiliar territory. Our purchasing power in the renewable sector will also help reduce cost.
