What you need to know about the Radio Teleswitch Service (RTS) meter switch off…
The Radio Teleswitch Service meters (RTS) were introduced in the 1980’s, they are now reaching the end of their operational life and will be changed to newer technology such as a smart meter.
RTS meters were initially going to be completely switched off on June 30th however, there is going to be a “carefully managed phase out” starting from the 30th of June to avoid disruption as much as possible.
What to do if you have an RTS meter?
All customers who will be affected by the phase out will be contacted by their energy provider, for an appointment to replace the meter with a smart meter, customers who have appointments after the 30th of June do not need to worry.
If you think you have an RTS meter but have not been contacted by your energy supplier, then contact them to double check. If you do have an RTS meter you can then book your appointment for your smart meter installation.
