Warm Homes as Preventative Medicine: Partnerships Director Joanna Seymour at Warm Wales, provides more insight in to the approach and its importance.
At Warm Wales, we are proud to stand alongside our partners in championing this Preventative Model—where warm, energy-efficient homes are recognised as a cornerstone of preventative healthcare. This initiative is not just about insulation and heating; it’s about dignity, wellbeing, and reducing the burden on our health services.
Why It Matters for Health and Prevention
· Cold homes contribute to respiratory illness, cardiovascular strain, and mental health challenges.
· Public Health Wales estimates that poor quality housing costs the NHS £95m a year. Around £41m of those costs are associated with the impact of excess cold.
· By improving thermal comfort, we reduce hospital admissions, GP visits, and reliance on medication—warmth becomes wellness.
The Power of Partnership
This movement began as a bold idea and has grown through the dedication of visionary individuals and collaborative organisations- this is a collective success.
Warm Wales is honoured to contribute our expertise in tackling fuel poverty and delivering energy advice and retrofit solutions. We believe that every home upgraded is a life improved, and every partnership formed is a step closer to a healthier, more resilient Wales.
Looking Ahead As this model expands across Wales and the UK, we remain committed to:
· Supporting vulnerable households with tailored energy solutions.
· Collaborating across sectors to align environmental quality with public health.
· Advocating for policy that recognises housing as a key health determinant.
To everyone who has contributed—thank you. And to those ready to join us: the door is open, the momentum is building, and the future is warmer.
Let’s keep the conversation going and please get in touch.
